THIS WEEK IN PADRES TWITTER – 7/27

E4B458B1-D7A3-4AB9-9577-C2407A7E57B1

¡Hola y Bienvenidos a esta semana en Padres Twitter! Soy la primera vez escritora. Gracias a Harold James…..Ok, I’m not going to really do this all in Spanish. For one it would be a mess, and secondly, leisurefriar would have no idea what’s going on.

With one trade in the books and quite possibly more on the way, Padre trade rumors have sent everyone into a tizzy. Reports from Ken Rosenthal indicated that the Padres were making a “big push” for the 29 yr old Chris Archer. A trade that quite honestly makes no sense and also would demand a pretty good amount of prospects. Especially in a year that is all but a wash. To trade for a “frontline starter”, whether its Archer, Syndergaard, or anyone of that stature, would just be a waste. The window for competing is currently not open. Neither is the reason to ship off possible Major League talent for a soon to be 30 yr old pitcher whose ERA and BABIP have been on the up in the last 3 years. These innings this year and next should be going to some of our younger, affordable talents. To ship them off so soon is truly unacceptable and a waste of our resources.

While writing this article tweets from some very predominant Padres twitter contributors were brought to light. Sure, these tweets were either racial, homophobic, or just gosh darn weird, but does the ecstasy of validation make it ok to bring all of this to light? At what point is it ok to expose the past thoughts of others for your own gratification. If it’s because you do not agree with their points of view or the fact they do not like you, then maybe should find a different medium to express yourself. This twitter thing may not be for you, and your ego stroking.

Now on to the good stuff.

Days Since Marver Actually Wrote Something:  2! Absolutely outstanding. Maybe it was the fact that I was writing TWiPT that inspired our savior Marver. YOU ARE WELCOME!

Gwynntelligence Posts:

Gwynntelligence Podcast: Episode 78: Kickin’ Marver In The Nuts At Rouleur Brewing:

Finally, the homecoming for Marver! And what a way to welcome him back with none other than leisurefriar! Really great sound quality for recording at a Brewery ( Jeff Dotseth episode). While the Tatis injury made me cry I’m glad the x-rays came back negative, which is positive, right? Nonetheless, a great podcast where they dive into the ins and outs of marathons and pick up basketball.

The other question: Where is Mike Dee’s replacement?:

Entry from thekanyepadre was a great one. In a world where everyone wants to know why mike dee was fired, he asks, where is his replacement. While its great that the Padres are making the effort to get more butts in the seats with multiple bobbleheads, and themed nights, the timing seems odd. 4 straight days of bobbleheads during mother’s day weekend? Also what I waste of money on a “5 win” ticket package. Just give us a monthly ticket subscription package already!

A quick plea: do not trade the farm right now:

Ah, the moment you have all been waiting for. This team needs time to grow. This will not happen overnight, or by trading for an ace this early in a rebuild. We need to let these prospects come up and take their lumps. We must see what we have in them first before we determine what we need exactly. It is absolutely asinine to waste all those innings during our non-contending window. There will pitchers available next year and the year after if needed.

Padres Blogosphere Posts:

Gaslamp Ball – What’s Eating Cal Quantrill?:

In an interesting piece, SDHatGuy breaks down what may be attributed to Cal’s horrid numbers. He is now 2 years removed from Tommy John surgery and trying to get back to the pitcher that A.J. selected in the 1st round of the 2016 draft.

EVT – Bringing the DH to the National League Will Benefit the Padres:

Think how great it would be to forego Myer’s shaky defense, and let him just hit on a daily basis. Now, since the Padres decided that we needed another first baseman, and like to play musical outfielders. How great would it be to plug one of either Renfroe, Myers, or when he’s healthy, Franchy Cordero? I don’t know about you, but, I for one wouldn’t mind not watching another Clayton Richard at-bat.

The Golden Age of Padres Podcasts:

Anderson Haigler from USD – TKF Pod #136:

We have entered a new age where Padres fans were either too young or, just never witnessed the late, great Tony Gwynn swing the back. It was refreshing to hear from someone who only experienced 1 Padres playoff win. Yes, that one win gets lost in all of the Cardinals beatings (thanks Chris Young). They do a great job of expressing their feelings about the ongoing trade rumors. A very common theme this week.

Mejia Trade Reactions, The Return Of Bryan Mitchell!! And Why Eric Is A Big Jerk:

Don’t let the title fool you. Eric isn’t a big jerk, He’s a HUGE jerk! Taking baseball’s away from children? I hear he also likes to tell kids Santa is fake. One of the just a couple of podcast this week to not have an emergency recording they break down the Hand deal pretty briefly. Mejia should be pushing Hedges out of the starting job. Mejia is definitely the far better bat of the two. The glove will come, it may not be of Hedges’ caliber, but it will be serviceable. Not to mention he speaks Spanish! Think of all those Mexicans who are going to come to Petco Park.

Is it time for the Padres to trade for an ace?:

The title pretty much sums it up for you. Lord Podcast himself graces us with his presence from the city of brotherly love.  There is no reason to mortgage the future for 1 guy. There probably isn’t a scenario where I trade Gore. The injury history for Thor is very unsettling. The unproven commodity for a proven commodity trade makes no sense in our case. Let’s see where we are at this time next year or possibly after. We also find out that Craig has not watched a movie in 30 years.

Episode 10 – The Worst Team in the League:

After 10 weeks I finally got a chance to give these Hijos a shot. Great sound quality and great back and forth between the 3. I had a hard time deciphering who was who. The host does a great job of keeping the show on track and moving subject to subject. Also, that intro song is great! The fact that Bryan Mitchell is going to be back in the rotation is absolutely horrible. Glad you guys didn’t dive into it too much. Bryan Mitchel, barf.

Padres EVT Podcast: Episode 102 with James and Patrick:

Big episode 102! Didn’t listen. Way too much going on in Padres twitter land.

Tweet of the Week:

Dunking on Acee Of The Week:

Dunking On Acee

Ah, finally we have some great entries this week. I for one am glad that the alley-oop era is over. The almighty Acee has a new line:

Quite honestly my favorite.
